We hope this finds you well. Fourth quarter is underway across our islands' schools, and graduation seems to be right around the corner; can't believe the 2016-17 school year has flown by us.
A quick update on the DreamHouse Ewa Beach charter application for the 2016-17 application cycle.
This past Thursday, April 6th, four members of the DreamHouse team met with six evaluators from the State Public Charter School Commission to go through what is called the "capacity interview". The conversation lasted 90-minutes, during which time we presented a short narrative and overview of our educational model (linked on the "2017 Application Materials Page"), answered questions about our proposed school, and walked through curriculum and finances. It was a positive, productive conversation, and we appreciate the time and effort that each evaluator has invested into reading through our 600+ pages of application and appendices.
Up next, there will be an opportunity to offer public testimony on DreamHouse. This will take place the morning of Thursday, May 11, at the Board of Education building downtown (1390 Miller Street). If you are interested in testifying, please feel free to (a) do so via the Commission's website, or (b) send to DreamHouse via the "Write Testimony" tab and we will include with our overall packet of letters.
On May 22, the evaluation team will release their initial recommendation to approve or deny the application. The recommendation will be lifted up to the Applications Committee and on Thursday, June 29, that Committee will take an initial vote on DreamHouse. The final vote will take place at the Commission's July 13 meeting.
Please note: if we are approved, we would have a year to bring our written plan to life and intend to open a 6th grade, 100 students, in July 2018. Exact location in Ewa Beach is to be determined, but our hope is to be along Pohakupuna Road.
Thank you again to the Commission's evaluation team for a great meeting, to everyone who has offered letters of support, to initial funders and champions of this school, and to our children and families who have helped craft this vision and plan. We would not be here without you.
