Aloha and Happy New Year.

How about 2017?  What a year.

There are three DreamHouse-related moments that I carry with me into 2018; each offers me hope, energy, and optimism for our school project.

1) Getting our charter.  On July 13th, when the Charter Commission approved DreamHouse, it was as if 5 years of planning, collaborating, and effort was memorialized in an "approved" recommendation.  We were given the yellow light: proceed with caution.

2) Our first parent call.  In September, a parent called and asked, "how can I sign my child up for DreamHouse?"  We didn't yet have a building, or teachers, or our leadership team; this was no matter.  It was a powerful validation that by planning and building alongside of community members, we had created an educational option that was already in demand, just one month into the 2017-18 school year.

3) Seeing $204,485 in funds raised.  Founding investment and belief in DreamHouse to the tune of $200,000+ in 2017 has been humbling and inspirational.  We are appreciative of the support and committed to building on the strong foundation and momentum from the past 6 months.

So, what does this mean for 2018?

As of today, we are committed to the following:

Finding a home.  We are inspired by emerging partnerships that would provide a space for DreamHouse to launch and grow; this is a fluid situation and we will post updates to our website, media platforms, and listserv as details emerge.

Inspiring partners.  Many individuals and organizations have expressed interest in DreamHouse, our vision, and the leadership- and identity-development model we have built; we are committed to engaging, informing, and partnering with individuals and organizations who have the capacity to bring DreamHouse to life.

Engaging our families.  Community information and engagement events are scheduled for Thursday, January 18th (registration) and Thursday, February 15th.  Parent, child, and community voice continues to be central to the development and direction of DreamHouse.

Learning and growing.  Building the capacity of our founding school board, our non-profit board, and our founding leadership team is central to the learning, growth, and development of DreamHouse as a team and as an organization; we continue to welcome developmental opportunities to grow our leadership and impact.

Mahalo nui for your continued interest in and support of DreamHouse, as well as your patience as we build the foundation of this school.  We welcome your voice, feedback, ideas, and energy - always.

More to come soon!
